A Big Change is on the Horizon

Do you have a mom story? You know, one where she volunteers you for something? I love my mom, Kathy, dearly. She is the founder of Mantle Rock Publishing and I have worked for her as her cover designer almost from the beginning. So last year when she volunteered me to write a 20,000 word novella, I thought she might be going, well, nuts.

I’ve always been the “cover artist” in our little band of authors. But now, thanks to support from mom and my two compadres, Pam Harris and Regina Merrick, I am announcing the upcoming release of my debut novella, All Yours, Art and Soul.

All Yours, Art and Soul is a Christian contemporary romance based on my fictional vision of St. Simons Island. Beth Kindall is a watercolor artist living her dream life in her home town. Trevor Garrett is looking for a home on the island who has instant chemistry with Beth. What might be the perfect relationship may never happen if Trevor’s realtor Kelly has anything to do with it.

Look for my next announcement about presale opportunities!

Book Cover For Faith’s Journey

Faiths-JourneyAs most of you know, I’m always running a little behind. It seems like every week lately has involved finishing up a book cover and getting the book formatted and ready for publication. That’s such an exciting time for both me and the author because now their book has life. It has a face now and the bones have been settled into place.

I loved working with Heather Greer and her cover came together so nicely. One of the locations in her book was a state park in Illinois and that became the backdrop for her cover. Her main character Faith, dressed in casual fall attire, became the focal point of this very simple but gorgeous cover. Here’s a teaser from this contemporary romance.

Katie McGowan left her parents and their faith behind years ago. However, when faced with a devastating betrayal, Katie is ready to go back to Carbondale, Illinois to help her elderly parents despite their tempestuous relationship. Drained by the constant friction, Katie finds emotional support and encouragement in Austin. His practical, simple faith speaks to Katie, and she finds herself yearning for a new connection to God. As their friendship grows, so does the attraction between Katie and Austin.

Before her fledgling faith and thoughts of romance have a chance to take root, Katie’s cheating fiancé returns, remorseful and promising change. Can her tentative faith strengthen their past love? And if her heart breaks again, will Katie’s journey to faith end before it has really begun?

Faith’s Journey was published by Mantle Rock Publishing and is available on Amazon.

BCR – Callum’s Compass

Callums-Compass-Kindle

The cover for Callum’s Compass by Sara Foust has been finished for a while, but I’m just now getting around to releasing it for you to see. The story is set in East Tennessee at Norris Lake, a beautiful clear lake that I have visited many times. Most of my visits were to a Boy Scout camp located on it’s banks but that didn’t detract from the natural beauty the area exudes. This was a fun cover to create, blending the compass and the beautiful lake setting together. The outdoor settings lended well to a rustic, campy font usage that tells the reader where the story is set.

Sara’s crafted a lovely story and here’s a preview of it’s contents.

KAT WILLIAMS’S brother died in a gruesome accident in the mountains of East Tennessee. She blames herself.

RYAN JENKINS’S fiancée was murdered. He couldn’t protect her.

With the death of her brother, Kat believes she is unworthy of love from anyone—even God. When a good friend elicits a promise that she will stop living in the past, then leaves her clues to a real-life treasure hunt, Kat embarks on an adventure chock-full of danger. To find the treasure, Kat will have to survive wild animals—and even wilder men. Can she rely on Ryan, the handsome wildlife officer assigned to protect her … without falling in love?

Ryan swore off love when his fiancée was murdered, but feelings long buried rise to the surface around Kat. He volunteers to help with her treasure hunt, vowing to keep her safe. Together they venture deep into caves and tunnels … and even deeper into the depths of their unplumbed hearts.

Callum’s Compass is available for pre-order on Amazon. You can learn more about Sara and her writing at her website, www.saralfoust.com.

Carolina Dream Book Cover

Carolina Dream 2.pngLast night I nailed down the final touches on this wonderful cover for Regina Merrick. I was so happy to get to work with Regina. I met her last year at the KenTen Writers Retreat and she is such a sweet person. She is a librarian by day and an author in her spare time.

I had fun creating a dreamy image of a southern mansion at the end of a drive lined with live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss. Regina really wanted a beachy feel as well, so we blended a beachscape on the lower portion of the cover. Together the two images create the prefect first glimpse of this Carolina Dream.

Carolina Dream is being published by Mantle Rock Publishing. It will go on presale March 15th and will be released around the first of April! Keep your eyes open for more information closer to the release date!

TBT – Frasier Island

Fraiser-Island(originally posted 8.28.2015)

I was honored to do this e-book cover for Susan Page Davis. Susan is a member of KenTen Writers, a group of authors from Western Kentucky and Tennessee. I met her a month or so ago when I gave a presentation to the group. Susan is a talented author with many published books to her credit.

Frasier Island guards a military secret. Ensign Rachel Whitney is posted at this remote missile installation on a North Pacific island, where she is to work in isolation with two men. She could love her new assignment, if Lt. George Hudson weren’t so antagonistic and obstinate. She sets out to prove she is perfect for the top secret job, in spite of the tension between them.

Frasier Island is available on Amazon.

TBT – Irish Encounter

Irish Encounter - FC

(originally posted 4.27.2015)

Irish Encounter by Hope Dougherty is a romantic novel which finds Ellen Shepherd visiting Ireland on a yarn-shopping tour. While there she encounters Payne Anderson who begins to test her in ways she was not expecting.

For this cover, capturing the breath-taking beauty of Ireland and the coziness of a cafe were important. An added touch of Celtic knot art seemed to round out the feelings for this romantic novel. As is sometimes the case, main characters with specific ages can be difficult to find in the stock photography market. Ellen, our main character, is a middle-aged widow with specific features. That led us to decide again not to feature her on the cover, but to leave her appearance up to the reader.

Irish Encounter is available on Amazon.
